Best Snacks for a Puzzle Party

There are tons of delicious snacks in the world but they are not all created equal when it comes to puzzle snacks. Some snacks are harder and messier to eat than others and the last thing we want is to get our beautiful puzzles dirty.

Whether you are looking for snacks to provide at a puzzle party, or you want something to munch on for yourself during your puzzle sessions, we got you covered. Check out our recommendations below! Please note this post contains affiliate links.

1. Pocky

Pocky is a Japanese snack named after the sound it makes when you eat it "Pokkin". It is a skinny biscuit stick dipped in chocolate, strawberry, and about 50 other different flavors. This is literally the PERFECT snack for doing jigsaw puzzles because the inventors purposefully left part of the biscuit un-dipped to keep your fingers clean.

2. Koala March

Koala March, otherwise known as "Koala Yummies," is a bite sized cookie with a creme filling. While the most popular flavors are chocolate and strawberry fillings, there are many other flavors to be on the look out for. To make it even more fun, these cookies are shaped like a koala with a picture of a koala printed on the outside of the cookie.

3. Charcuterie Board

The best part about this snack is that it is highly customizable. There are so many different kinds of cured meats, cheeses, spreads, fruits, and more than can create the perfect combination. With this snack, I recommend slicing your cheese and meats to be bite sized and pair them up with a toothpick. That way, you can eat it with just one hand!

Here is my personal favorite combination for inspiration!

Carbs: Sliced Baguette or Ritz Crackers
Meat: Prosciutto
Cheese: Gouda or Manchego
Spread: Quince Jam
Fruit: Strawberries or Grapes

4. Grapes

Even though I mentioned grapes in the previous snack, I feel like grape deserves it's own bullet point. Fruit is always a go-to snack for me. It is simple, refreshing, and healthy! For puzzling, I specifically recommended grapes because they are small, can be eaten in one bite, and so easy to prepare. If you want to take it a step further on a hot summer day, frozen grapes are a great healthy alternative to Popsicles.

5. Shredded Dried Squid

Commonly found in coastal Asian countries, Russia, and Hawaii, this snack is a seasoned seafood product with a chewy, beef jerky like texture! It has the perfect combination of sweet, salty, spicy, and umami all in one bite. If you don't want the spice, they have a plain version as well.

6. Apple Cinnamon Cheerios

This cereal is the perfect breakfast with milk and perfect snack without milk for puzzling. I always loved honey nut cheerios but apple cinnamon is just 10x better!

7. Crudite

Another tasty treat on the healthier side, crudités platters consist of raw sliced vegetables and a dipping sauce. Just like the charcuterie board, it is so easy to put together and fully customizable. Examples (but not limited to) include celery, carrots, cucumbers, and bell peppers paired with ranch, hummus, or peanut butter!

8. Pretzels/Pretzel Crisps/Bagel Chips

A timeless party classic. Personally, the salt ones are too plain for me. I prefer the flavored Pretzel Crisps such as Everything, Garlic Parmesan, and Buffalo. Dipped pretzels are also a great option for convenience!

9. Shrimp Chips

If you've never had these before, you most definitely have to give it a try. Vice said it perfectly: "The correct way to eat a shrimp chip is not to down a handful with reckless abandon, but rather to savor each one. In terms of American snacks, they eat sort of like a Cheeto, but with a totally different flavor profile." You have to let the savory shrimp flavor permeate your mouth. The more you have, the more delicious it gets.

10. Rolled Wafers

Rolled wafers/cigar wafers - they are delicious and mess free. Pick your favorite filling! I think I'll have to go with hazelnut fudge. While I am not loyal to any brand in particular, I featured the Pepperidge Farm, Pirouette's below.

11. Oreos

This all time classic might give you crumbs but if you are careful, this could be a great snack since the biscuit will not leave your fingers with any grease.

12. Pretz

If Pretzels and Pocky had a baby, it would be Pretz. Pretz is a biscuit stick, just like pocky. However, instead of being dipped in fudge, it is dusted with plenty of seasoning and has the texture of a pretzel. Pretz has a lot of different flavors - definitely give Tomato and Roast a try!

Final Thoughts

Regardless of which snack or snacks you decide on, here are some general tips to keep your puzzle in mint condition.

  • Use toothpicks and bite sized foods whenever possible
  • Stay away from greasy options or things that can spill/drip easily
  • Have plenty of napkins, baby wipes, & hand sanitizer around
  • Have tiny plates and bowls for people to use
