In the world of technology and social media, your last thought is probably sitting down to do a jigsaw puzzle. Why should I puzzle when I can just watch TV? I thought that too. Turns out, puzzling became one of my favorite hobbies - there is SO much to love!
1. Puzzles are for everyone.
As a kid, puzzling is very common. As a teenager, not so much. When I rediscovered puzzling in my early 20s, I quickly realized how much I enjoyed putting the pieces together. As my skill level increased, I always found an even more challenging puzzle to pursue. There is a puzzle out there for everyone: 100 piece puzzles for kids, 1,000 piece puzzles for adults, and even 50,000 piece puzzles for the masters.
2. Puzzles are a GREAT deal.
Anyone who knows me personally knows that I am obsessed about getting a great deal. Puzzles are inexpensive, last a long time by providing hours of entertainment, and can be repurposed into a piece of art to hang on the wall! That kind of value combo is hard to come by.
3. Puzzles teach you to be patient and improve problem solving skills.
When the whole background looks the same, I occasionally feel like giving up. While I am not even close to being a master at puzzling, I have improved my ability to calm myself down, think outside the box, and create new methods to solving the puzzle. These skills can be applied to all other aspects of life.
4. Puzzles are a way to relax and socialize at the same time.
As an introvert, I started puzzling as an individual hobby. I would play some music, have some tea, and get immersed in the world of my puzzle while ignoring any and all stresses of reality. To my surprise, my friends (who do not puzzle) were excited to puzzle with me after I hosted a dinner party. Not only is it a great individual hobby, it is a fantastic way to socialize and not stare at our phones.
5. Puzzles offer a sense of accomplishment.
Whether it is connecting sections together or putting the last piece of the puzzle in, the feeling is just unbelievably satisfying. There's nothing more to it.
6. Puzzles are fun & addicting!
I would be lying if I said I never felt frustrated to the point it wasn't fun. The key is to find puzzles that are a good fit for YOU. Jigsaw puzzles have so many variations: types of artwork, types of shapes, irregular jigsaw piece shapes, and total number of pieces. Finding one that fits your taste will motivate you to push through the challenge and leave you craving for the next.
If you are new to puzzling, we hope this post has inspired you to give it a try. If not, we would love to hear what else you love about jigsaw puzzles!
